Kei Nishida is a passionate advocate of Japanese craftsmanship, a writer, and the founder and CEO of Japanese Wine Co., Japanese Knife Co., Japanese Green Tea Co., and Japanese Coffee Co., all under Dream of Japan.
His journey began with a mission to introduce the world to the refined taste and cultural richness of Japanese green tea. Through Japanese Green Tea Co., he pioneered the import of premium tea grown in nutrient-rich sugarcane soil, earning multiple Global Tea Champion awards along the way. He later expanded into coffee with Japanese Coffee Co., becoming the first to bring authentic Sumiyaki charcoal-roasted coffee to a global audience.
With a deep respect for Japanese artistry and tradition, Kei then turned his attention to one of Japan’s most revered crafts: bladesmithing. Through Japanese Knife Co., he introduced handcrafted katana-style knives, created by a renowned katana maker, to customers outside Japan for the first time. These exceptional knives carry forward centuries of samurai sword-making expertise, blending tradition, precision, and modern functionality for chefs and collectors alike.
Now, with Japanese Wine Co., Kei is bringing two of Japan’s remarkable hidden treasures in wine to a wider audience.
From Napa Valley, Kazumi grows Koshu from canes brought directly from Japan, making it the only American vineyard cultivating this indigenous Japanese grape. Its pioneering wine is the first commercial American Koshu, awarded 94 points by The Wine Palate and featured on Michelin restaurant wine lists.
From Yamanashi, Kei introduces Grace Wine to the United States for the first time. Grace produced the first Japanese wine ever to win Gold at the Decanter World Wine Awards with its Koshu wine, made from Japan’s indigenous grape, and has continued to earn international acclaim with Platinum and Gold honors, including six consecutive years of major Decanter recognition.
Kei’s journey continues as he uncovers and shares Japan’s hidden treasures—one sip, one blade, and one legacy at a time.
